Marmoush double fires Man City past Newcastle into FA Cup last eight
Manchester City secured their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a commanding 3-1 comeback victory at Newcastle United on Saturday night, with Omar Marmoush once again proving the decisive force against the same opposition.
The Egyptian forward scored twice at St James' Park, repeating the feat he had achieved against Newcastle earlier in the season, to help City overturn a first-half deficit in a contest that Sky Sports described as thrilling.
Newcastle had taken the lead, forcing City to respond, but Pep Guardiola's side showed the resilience that has defined their recent cup campaigns to turn the tie around and ultimately win with a measure of comfort.
Marmoush's contributions were central to the turnaround. The forward, who has established himself as a key figure in City's attacking play since his arrival, demonstrated the form that has made him one of the more consequential signings at the club, netting twice to add to his earlier brace against the same opponents this campaign.
The win sends City through to the quarter-final draw, where they will be among the favourites to progress further in a competition that represents one of the more attainable pieces of silverware remaining to them this season.
