Iranian Factions Fight in London Streets Outside Maida Vale Mosque
Rival groups of Iranians clashed violently outside the Islamic Centre of England in Maida Vale on Friday night, in scenes that brought the political tensions of the Iranian conflict sharply into the British capital.
Supporters of the Iranian regime and monarchists opposed to it were filmed kicking and punching each other in what witnesses described as a chaotic street brawl outside the mosque. Video footage of the incident circulated widely, showing the confrontation escalating into open physical violence.
The Islamic Centre of England, located in the Maida Vale district of west London, was the backdrop to the disorder, which erupted as the two factions came into direct contact. The scenes underscored the extent to which political divisions within Iran's diaspora community have manifested in public confrontations on the streets of the United Kingdom.
